San Diego vs. Portland vs. Tokyo Showdown : Hellion Gallery

Here's another amazing show, coming your way, during San Diego Comic Con International week! Wouldn't you like to be part of the lucky few in San Diego who get to enjoy this art overload? Matt Wagner of Hellion Gallery, Don Hollis of Subtext Gallery, Neil M. Perry of Antler Gallery and many more... have brought together an incredible line-up of artists to create a piece of artwork commemorating their hometown.

Hellion Gallery (located at 433 3rd Ave, San Diego, California 92101)
will feature this work from July 10th through the 15th.
Gallery hours are from 11 AM to 7 PM
and the reception will take place Friday the 13th at 6 PM!

San Diego Comic Con International 2012 : Exhibitor Table J-06

Comic Con's "Preview Night" opens tomorrow from 6 PM - 9 PM and I hope you all managed to finagle a ticket... the more dubious means of attainment, the better... or at least that's my personal motto when it comes to planting yourself among comic mayhem in tightly confined spaces. The board swears they're within Fire Marshal regulation... but we'll just see about that this year...  
fingers and toes crossed...

Anyways, this year proves to be a hallmark indeed,
because now I officially have my own table
among the other exhibitors at Comic Con!

Unfortunately I will miss my good friend Randy Christopher (genius mastermind behind the increasingly popular "Bear & Fox" as well as "Kleeman & Mike" comic books). He will be in the same place, table F-11, so let's all pay him a visit and make sure he knows how much we love him and his work. He's got a new cartoon debuting this year, and word on the street is that it should be pretty epic!

In addition to Randy's awesomeness, I will have a new comic debuting at the Con this year entitled For all the Pretty Birds. It's a sneak peak/prelude to a story about mass extinction, existential anonymity, the pains of being pure at heart and some sexy bird speak... tweet tweet. My table will also feature lots and lots of original, framed art for sale, prints, t-shirts, stationary and relationship advice...

So please come get some, because I'm sure you need all of these things...

Cartoon Network 20th Anniversary Show : Work in Progress III

Here is the third and final installment of my work in progress for Cartoon Network's 20th Anniversary Show. I'm so thrilled to finish this piece and only wish that I had extra time to interpret more characters from the show "Generator Rex"... maybe the next time around...

"Breach Tree"

Ballpoint Pen, Watercolor and Gold Ink 

with a Walnut Ink Stain

As much as I love the bitter side of Breach's character, my interpretation of her involved a more serene disposition. I wanted to depict Breach at peace with herself, so I decided to make her into a tree. There is also a small inscription next to her which reads:

"If only Breach were a lovely tree,

Then her spirit could roam free."

I figured she could be most happy when free of this strange power that allows her to slip through other dimensions, and I thought that if I made her into a tree spirit (tied to one dimension yet free to enjoy the surrounding space) she could finally achieve this state of mind.

Cartoon Network 20th Anniversary Show : Work in Progress II

I'm getting closer and closer to the finish line with this piece... Just a few more details and she'll be good to go for Cartoon Network's 20th Anniversary Show- curated by the immensely talented Mark Murphy. Once again, I am extremely humbled by all of the talent surrounding this event, not to mention the fact that it's going to debut at San Diego's Comic Con International this year! Wow, so blown away right now... words can't describe... I just hope I can keep coasting on this wavelength... I thank my lucky stars everyday, as well as Mark for giving me a chance to show with all of these other amazing artists.

I'm anxious to see how everything is going to turn out... the artwork... the art show... comic con this year... But then again, half the fun is the anticipation...

Cartoon Network 20th Anniversary Show : Work in Progress I

Hey everyone, hope you did something fun yesterday for the first day of summer! I (on the other hand) have been trying to do everything that's humanly possible to stay on top of my assignments for the tattoo apprenticeship as well as meet my deadlines for a number of shows that are coming up in the month of July... which is a most excellent way for me to spend my summer afternoon...

First off, we have an incredible show curated by Mr. Mark Murphy commemorating Cartoon Network's 20th Anniversary. Mark has assembled some of the most impressive talents from across the US and overseas, to create artwork in honor of the different cartoons that play on Cartoon Network. He also intends to open the show at this year's San Diego Comic Con International, along with a small booklet which will feature the artworks made by the participating artists.

SO EXCITED.

Please enjoy the following preview of my work in progress for Cartoon Network's 20th Anniversary Show...

Mark assigned each artist a different cartoon that would tastefully compliment their style of artistic expression. My assignment was the cartoon "Generator Rex" which afforded me a long list of creative characters to choose from... I had a bit of a tough time deciding on just one, but eventually went with a female character by the name of "Breach". 

I really liked her button down collared shirt, red skirt, and baby doll shoes... It almost reminded me of something I would wear to school as a kid. I also liked how angsty she was in the series... the angry, misunderstood girl that opens alternate dimensions to escape through... I almost felt like I could identify with her on a lot of levels.

Hopefully I can do justice to her image.
